Jon Werking

The album covers a vast range of emotions: from up tempo pieces like my arrangement of the Doxology, to more pensive pieces like the title song Every Horizon. The title Every Horizon is inspired by the idea that, as individuals, we see the same horizon, but what that horizon hold is completely different for each us. With instrumental music, the listener becomes a participant. My hope is that the music will inspire you to play your part as you listening to it.

A member of Nyack College, New York City’s resident jazz faculty ensemble, Prof. Jonathan (“Jon”) Werking holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano, with a minor in Communications, from Ithaca College, as well as a Masters of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Music from Eastman School of Music.

As may be seen from his Web site, jonwerking.com, Jon has performed and recorded with a virtual “who’s who” of contemporary artists.  He is a songwriter and producer as well as a performer, and penned the Christmas song, “Love’s in our Hearts (on Christmas Day)”, for the pop group, N’Sync, that sold over five million copies worldwide.  He also wrote the title track to Chuck Loeb’s album, “In a Heartbeat”—Chuck Loeb is the number one selling smooth guitarist.

In addition to his busy career as a songwriter and producer, Jon has worked extensively on Broadway, in such noted musicals as “Aida” and “Come, Fly Away” (Twyla Tharp, based on the music of Frank Sinatra). He also has worked on films (“Beauty and the Beast,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Gangs of New York” and “The Last Mimzy.”)

Jon has been teaching at Nyack College, New York City, since 2006. His passion is improvisation and helping the student find his own personal “voice.” A committed Christian, his prayer for his students and Nyack College, taken from Psalm 16, is that we would see the Lord always before us and follow the path of life He has shown us, with passion and excellence.
