When you look at the song's lyrics by Frances Crosby, there are exclamation marks at the end of the lines--they are very confident statements. I find that beautiful, but it is also heartbreaking; the Christian walk with God is not always in confidence, in fact, most of it is in doubt. I wanted to spin the hymn in a way that turns the song into a cry to God, the opposite of confidence.
In a real way, this cry to God is when you see beauty, because God assures us no matter where we are. It is also what makes it so great. This is my story: It’s his love that brings me back, and assures me that I can trust him and look to him for all my troubles. Everyone struggles, and everyone goes through family troubles, or relationships. This song is such a great reminder that God is there, his assurance is there.
